December Canada Chapter Update & 2024 Meeting Schedule

Hello World Travelers,

Dr. Phil Tanner, TCC Canada member and our guest speaker on Dec. 2, gave us some fascinating insights and some of the profound and stark realities associated with being a career International Aid Worker over several decades.

A good representation of live/ Zoom TCC Canada members enjoyed a terrific presentation beginning when Phil was five years old when he was with his family being airlifted out of Saigon in 1975. His Dad worked for the United Nations. Growing up in a variety of countries, partly inspired Phil to embark on his chosen career path.

Imagine having a “front row seat” to dozens of the world’s natural disasters and political upheavals over the decades. Phil was “boots on the ground” assisting with humanitarian efforts in countries around the world.

To name a few international events that Phil responded to: Indonesian and Japanese tsunamis, the Nepal earthquake in 2015, South Sudan and Darfur wars, humanitarian crisis and famines, Haitian earthquake, genocide in Rwanda.

Through it all, Phil is a passionate traveler beyond the world’s danger zones having attained his TCC 100 status in 2016.

Also, in attendance from Vancouver was our newest TCC Canada member, Dr. Parmjit Sohal. We gave him a warm TCC Canada welcome as he attended his first meeting. Given the proximity of TCC Seattle to his hometown, Parmjit intends join chapter meetings there too.
